Aquaman vol. 5??? Could Geoff Johns make it work????

Postby BriGuy on Thu May 15, 2008 12:17 am

I think what people "loved" was the characterization of Aquaman during the "harpoon" (which quickly became a hook) period, not necessarily the harpoon hand itself. Least, that's what I loved about it. Hope that was clear in my post. Also, I think the "hypocrisy" was kind of the point. The harpoon represents something to both the surface and ocean worlds. As for not being very "monarchical", well, Aquaman never claimed to be and wasn't king when he adapted it, anyway.

Re: a blue "camo" costume, it was done before in the '80s and then they realized that the color of the water appears green when you get that deep. It only appears blue on the surface.

I never liked the look either and I didn't care enough to stick around to read 'em.

I liked the Blue Magical hand from the last run. It gave Aquaman the more mythical feeling that i think fits perfectly with the character. I've never read the other Volumes, so i can't speak of the harpoon handed Aquaman.
Altho i have to agree with TCrawford on the harpoon :)

Sub Diego story arc was also very good, but after One year later i've lost the interest. I was on the point to let the book go, and they canceld the series. So i guess i wasn't the only one with that feeling.

I was ok with HARPON hand, just hate his first costume. Orgenge and green, oy. Still, I think Geeof John can make A.M. work. He seams to make any charcter he writes work.
I'm Dislexic this is as good as the spelling gets.

I think it'll be hard for a new AQUAMAN series to be successful in the long term (post-3 years), if it completely negates the post-Crisis origin of Atlan as his father, the Curse of Kordax, Porm the dolphin, etc. Would be a completely unnecessarily broad change that would only confuse and frustrate the already limited Aquaman fanbase.

Has there been indication that this will happen? I haven't checked the other comics sites recently so I don't know if there is talk of a new Aquaman book.

I did notice that Thomas Curry was referenced as Arthur's father in some recent comics. But I assumed this was just who Arthur thinks of as his father (the man who raised him and served as father figure), not necessarily that Atlan's been retconned.

The clearest indication so far that this is a possibility is in BRIGHTEST DAY #0 where Aquaman is called "half human/half Atlantean" rather than a full Atlantean.

Also, in the post-Crisis origin, the lighthouse keeper's name was Arthur Curry, not Tom Curry.

I do believe that's actually bordering on getting as confusing as Hawkman was. Yeah, can we get Geoff in here at least long enough to straighten things out?
